Oracle has recently launched certification exams for Java 11 and they named the certificate as Oracle Certified Professional: Java SE 11 Developer
This time Oracle didn’t release the BETA version of the exam, rather they decided to go with the FINAL version.

To get this certificate, candidate needs to pass below 2 exams:
Java SE 11 Programmer I 1Z0-815
Exam Title: Java SE 11 Programmer I
Exam Number: 1Z0-815
Duration: 180 Minutes
Number of Questions: 80
Passing Score: 63%
and
Java SE 11 Programmer II 1Z0-816
Exam Title: Java SE 11 Programmer II
Exam Number: 1Z0-816
Duration: 180 Minutes
Number of Questions: 80
Passing Score: 63%
This is different from the Certification requirement of Java 8, in which passing 1Z0-808 exam was rewarded with OCA certification where as passing 1Z0-809 exam was rewarded with OCP certification. With Java 11, there is just one certificate Oracle Certified Professional: Java SE 11 Developer and candidate needs to pass both the exams to receive the certificate.
Both the exams (1Z0-815 and 1Z0-816) have 80 questions to be answered in 3 hours and passing score is 63%. As you all know OCP certification exams are tougher than OCA certification exams and as both exams (1Z0-815 and 1Z0-816) are part of OCP certification, so it seems it is going to be very tough to crack these exams.
There are no practice test exams and preparation guide available now but I assume that in next 2-4 months time these will be available.
I received a lot of queries regarding Java 8 and Java 11 certifications therefore I am writing this blog to answer all those queries here.
As Java 11 certification is out, so what about Java 8 certification?
Well, Below is the Java SE Support Roadmap plan available on oracle site:
Premier Support is available until March 2022 and extended support is available until December 2030. Starting with Java SE 11 release, Java is NOT FREE for commercial usage. So, a lot of companies will stick to Java 8 and this may continue for next 2 to 3 years. So, Java 8 jobs will still be there for few years and in my view Oracle is not going to expire Java 8 exam in near future.
If you are working in Java 8 and if you need a Java certification (OCA or OCP or both) now or in next few months, then go for Java 8 certification. If you pass OCP certification exam (1Z0-809), then you can easily upgrade to Java 11 certification by passing just one exam 1Z0-817.
If you are not planning any Java certification in next few months, then you can prepare for Java 11 certification.
Based on your requirement, you can decide.
I have passed the OCA exam (1Z0-808), should I go for 1Z0-809 and 1Z0-817 exams or 1Z0-815 and 1Z0-816 exams?
If you have a certification on Java 6/7/8, then you can directly appear for the 1Z0-816 exam.
I already have OCP certification for Java 8, do I need to take both the exams (1Z0-815 and 1Z0-816) to get “OCP certification for Java 11”?
There is one good news, if you are already holding OCP certification for Java 6, Java 7 or Java 8 platform, then no need to appear for both the exams (1Z0-815 and 1Z0-816), rather you can take the 1Z0-817 upgrade exam. After passing the 1Z0-817 exam, you will be awarded with Oracle Certified Professional: Java SE 11 Developer (Upgrade from OCP Java 6, 7 & 8) Certificate.
Exam Title: Upgrade OCP Java 6, 7 & 8 to Java SE 11 Developer
Duration: 120 Minutes
Exam Number: 1Z0-817
Number of Questions: 58
Passing Score: 61%
Passing score of this exam is 61% and you need to attempt 58 questions in 2 hours time.
